Botanical name - Nelumbo nucifera

Description - Aquatic free floating rhizomatous herb. Leaves peltate, orbicular. Flowers white or pink, solitary, large. Achenes. ovoid.

Chemical Constituents- Plant contains anonaine, pro nuciferine, nuciferine, N-nornuciferine, O-nornuciferine, liriodenine, d- methylcoelourine, remerine and dl-armeparitie. Leaves, carpels and rhizome contain alkaloids. Leaves contain alkaloids nuciferine, roemerine, nonnuciferine. Petioles, pedicels, seed, embryo contain nelumbine. Flowers contain lupeol, alpha-amyrin, lysine, beta- sitosterol, n-triacontanol, amino acids. Seeds contain oxoushinsunine and N-norarmeparine

Use - All parts of plant are medicinal. Roots And rhizomes used in piles, dysentery and skin diseases.
